The Lines Screen
What am I looking at?
This screen shows the proposed arrangement of classes into lines. You can see a column for each elective line with the colour-coded classes in that column. There are also 3 additional columns:
- Off timetable: These classes will still run, but in early morning or lunchtime classes, i.e. outside the normal timetable. Atlantis's algorithms do not place off-timetable classes, instead you arrange them yourself, manually.
- Throw away: These classes will just not run. You will save teachers' salaries but possibly disappoint students by dropping subjects or running fewer classes.
- Undecided: These classes need to be placed into one of the other columns.
How do I use this screen?
We recommend you let Atlantis use its algorithms to arrange the classes. To do this, press the [Solve] button. You may first want to press the [Weights] button to tweak the numeric weights of each score metric. If you don't trust Atlantis to give you the best arrangement then you can make manual changes: use the mouse to manually drag classes from one place to another.
In the toolbar you can see a numeric 'score' showing how good Atlantis thinks this arrangement is. Ultimately Atlantis tries to minimise the score. (In all Atlantis functions, lower score=better). You can click on the Score box to get a detailed breakdown of this overall score. If the arrangement is not quite to your liking then you might be able to get a better result by tweaking the score weights (by pressing the [Weights] button) and hitting [Solve] again.
When you are satisfied with the arrangement, press [Commit]. This will translate the lines solution into the timetabling structures - you'll then be able to see your lines solution in the 'DataEntry > Structure' screen, ready for the main timetabling process.
