Atlantis Server Migration
On Tuesday December 16, we will be completing a migration from our single, Sydney based server to 2 new servers at the Brisbane Servers Australia location.
The A1 and A2 server will be down during the migration. We expect the migration to take 2 - 3 hours. We expect to be back on line by the afternoon. The new addresses will be:
Once we confirm the migration was successful, we will email you.
Please see below for some responses to questions we have anticipated.
FAQs
Why have we moved to new servers?
We are moving to new servers to increase capacity. Until now we’ve been relying on a single, less powerful, physical server. Our new servers will double our capacity and enable us to distribute load during busy periods. These servers are also a lot more powerful than what we have.
We have also chosen a different location, one closer to our contracted System Administrator.
What will happen to the data on the old servers?
All the data on the old servers will be copied to the new servers at the cutover time. The old servers will be disabled, to avoid confusion because data is not replicated between the old pair and the new pair of servers (we can’t afford any confusion about which pair of servers hosts the most up-to-date version of your files).
Where will our data be stored after the switch?
Currently your data is stored in Sydney. After the switch your data will be stored in a professional datacentre in Brisbane. The Sydney servers will contain your data in an inaccessible way until those servers are properly decommissioned at which point all customer data will be deleted from those servers.
What should I do if I notice that my data has changed?
Contact Tim Cooper if you suspect something has gone wrong with the transition: tim@atlantis.education or 0488 084136.
Was there a problem with the old servers?
There was no problem with the old servers other than it wasn’t suitable for the growth we’re expecting, and it’s location was inconvenient for our system administrator to visit the datacenter to run maintenance, physical upgrades etc.
What differences in performance should I expect, if any?
We expect that you will continue to experience the fast, snappy performance.
